Better Classrooms Start With Better Design for Boys

8 Strategies for Engaging Boys in the Classroom

ORDER THE BOOK

8 Strategies for Engaging Boys in the Classroom is a practical, classroom-tested guide designed to help teachers understand how boys think, move, process, communicate, compete, and lead. These strategies are simple to use, grounded in real experience, and focused on helping boys thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

If you’ve ever felt like you were “losing” the boys in your room—or wished you had clearer, more effective ways to reach them—this book is for you.

What You’ll Learn

Inside, you’ll discover how to:

  • Use movement, visuals, and competition to increase engagement

  • Build leadership skills naturally

  • Channel energy instead of fighting it

  • Communicate in ways boys actually respond to

  • Strengthen classroom culture and reduce behavior issues

These aren’t theories. They’re tools you can use tomorrow.

Why I Wrote This Book

Boys aren’t broken. They’re simply built differently.
When teachers understand the way boys learn—and adjust even slightly—everything changes: attention, behavior, confidence, and long-term academic success.

My hope is to equip every teacher with the insight and confidence to bring out the best in the boys entrusted to them.

About the Author

Jeremy Spicer

For more than 30 years, I’ve worked with boys in classrooms, ministries, and mentoring environments. I’ve seen firsthand how easily many boys disengage when the classroom doesn’t match the way they naturally learn.

This has become a passion of mine: helping boys thrive, supporting teachers, and strengthening the learning experience for every student—boys and girls alike. Our educational system hasn’t intentionally left boys behind, but over time we’ve moved away from the kind of learning that speaks their language. Boys respond to a more masculine, action-oriented style of learning, and when we overlook that, we lose them.

I believe it’s time to bring them back. When we reengage boys using their natural language, classrooms become healthier, teachers feel more effective, and every child benefits from a stronger, more balanced learning environment.

My mission is to help teachers bridge that gap and rediscover what boys need to succeed.
